Editorial & Corrections

How this site is researched and written, and how to request a correction.

Sourcing

Articles are researched from primary and public sources, which include but are not limited to scheme rulebooks, regulatory filings, consultations, company publications, consultancy reports and press coverage. Every article carries its full source list, categorised by kind, and claims are attributed to the sources they are taken from.

Fact and opinion

Reporting and interpretation are kept distinguishable. Where an article or essay takes a position on what a scheme, regulator or company has done or may do next, it is written as the author’s read, with language to match, and the sources on which the opinion is based are identified in the article. Opinions are honestly held at the date of publication, based on the sources and information available then. They are not statements of fact, and they are not representations of the intentions of the organisations discussed.

Independence and conflicts

Articles and essays are written in a personal capacity. The author’s employment is disclosed on every article and essay published here, and any material employment, client, investment or other interest relevant to a specific article is disclosed within that article. No content is written on behalf of, reviewed or approved by, or attributable to Global Payments, Worldpay, or any other current or former employer, client or affiliated organisation, and none of it uses confidential, proprietary or otherwise non-public information obtained through those relationships.

Corrections

Requests for correction should be sent to corrections@thepaymentstrace.com. Any request should identify the article, the passage and the basis for the correction. Material errors are corrected on the article with a dated note. Minor fixes of typography or phrasing that do not change the meaning are made without a note. Every article shows its publication date, and any material update adds an updated date beside it.

Right of reply

This is an independent blog, and the research and analysis on it are the author’s own. Comment is not sought from the organisations or people an article discusses before it is published, and no article is submitted to its subjects for approval. Everyone discussed here does have a right of reply. An organisation or individual who considers an article unfair or inaccurate can write to corrections@thepaymentstrace.com and follow the corrections protocol described above. A reasonable request receives a considered response, and where a reply merits publication it is recorded within the article. Complaints about the conduct of the site, rather than the content of an article, go to complaints@thepaymentstrace.com.

Nothing on the site is currently paid, commissioned, sponsored or affiliated. If that ever changes, the material will say so prominently at the top of the piece, not in a footer.
